Mr Alfred Nawa is still Southern Province top cop, contrary to claims he was “removed”

False

The Zambia Police Service indeed provided Mr. Ndambo with police escort during the My Home Town Beauty Pageant but this has not cost Mr Nawa his job.

Claim

The Patriotic Front (PF) Facebook page on July 13, 2022, published an article claiming Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Mr. Alfred Nawa had been removed from his position because he provided businessman James Ndambo with police escort, normally reserved for high-ranking government officials, and for deploying 300 police officers to provide security during My Home Town Beauty Pageant grand finale in Choma on July 2, 2022.

Rating Justification

iVerify Zambia’s fact-checking process has determined as false the claim that Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Mr. Alfred Nawa has been removed from his position for providing police escort to Mr. James Ndambo and for deploying 300 officers to provide security during the My Hometown grand finale in Choma on July 2, 2022. My Home Town Beauty Pageant grand finale was a big event that was aired on different television stations and was trending online. Earlier that day a video was circulating on social media showing Mr Ndambo being escorted by police. In the video, Mr James Ndambo was then seen coming out of the car walking towards the people that were waiting for him at the event. But when contacted by iVerify Zambia, deputy police spokesperson Danny Mwale dismissed the claim, saying Mr. Nawa was still Southern Province Commanding officer.
