On Wednesday, 10 May 2023, The Candidates Facebook page posted a statement alleging that the UPND government had withdrawn all state security from the residence of the former Republican President, Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu. The reports were accompanied by a purported Zambia Police Service message form circulating on social media platforms, that the Police Command had directed the withdrawal of all officers attached to the residence of the former Head of State with immediate effect.

iVerify Zambia has determined as misleading the claim by The Candidates Facebook page that the ruling UPND government had withdrawn all state security from the residence of the former Republican President, Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu. In a statement issued by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer and accessed by iVerify Zambia, Mr. Danny Mwale clarified that the former Head of State still has State Security. The officers appearing on the message form circulating on social media platforms, have been withdrawn and redeployed to perform other duties elsewhere, he said.
