Images of learners sitting on the floor with no furnineture have nothing to do with government or CDF

False

The photographs uploaded to the Patriotic Front (PF) Page with the description that claims no desks have been sent to the unnamed school by the government or CDF, has nothing in relation to government or CDF as the images , according to the image verification tools, were uploaded in 2018 before the UPND government came into power.

Claim

On January 26, 2023, the Patriotic Front (PF) Facebook page published two images with the caption, “no desks from government or CDF”. The images showed children in school uniform sitting on the floor of an unfurnished classroom while writing. The post received a lot of mixed reactions from the followers, with most of them expressing concern over the depicted situation considering that government policy was to procure and provide desks to schools through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Rating Justification

The iVerify Zambia fact checking process has determined as misleading the assertion made by the Patriotic Front (PF) Facebook Page that no desks from the government or CDF were delivered to the school depicted by the picture, forcing pupils to sit on the floor while learning.

The fact checking process which used one of the image verification tools to verify the accuracy of the images established that the photos were initially uploaded on March 20, 2018, at 09:14 AM.

Therefore, iVerify Zambia finds the claim by the Patriotic Front Facebook page that government had not provided desks to the school whose classroom is shown in the picture to be misleading because the current United Party National Development (UPND) government was not in power in 2018 when the pictures were uploaded.
