On Friday, January 20, 2023, a post on the Zambian Bulletin Facebook page claimed that the former Minister of Health, Dr. Chitalu Chilufya, had withdrawn from the race for the Presidency of the Patriotic Front party. The post alleges that Mr. Chilufya’s decision was due to his failure to mobilize resources required for his movements around the country to mobilize support from party members like the other aspirants were doing.
Rating Justification
The claim by the Zambian Bulletin Facebook page that the former Minister of Health, Dr. Chitalu Chilufya, had opted out of the race for the Presidency of the Patriotic Front party is false.
iVerify Zambia examined a statement posted by Dr. Chitalu Chilufya on his Facebook page on Friday, January 20, 2023, which refuted the assertions circulating on social media that he had withdrawn from the PF party Presidential race.
Mr. Chilufya said, “Contrary to false opposition propaganda that I am no longer in the race for the PF presidency, I want to assure all that I am running and running well to win”.
He added that he was focused on producing and selling a new cadre of leadership that embodies unity, welfare of the people in the party structures and beyond, and that offers real alternative to the people with regards to addressing major issues confronting the Zambian people.
Further, there has been no official communication from the PF or any other stakeholders involved in the issue.
