Rating Justification
iVerify Zambia has determined as misleading, the claim by The Candidates Facebook page that Zambia “agreed to promote respect for sexual orientation” in accordance with the Declaration of the Summit for Democracy. According to a communique released by the U.S. Department of State, and accessed and examined by iVerify Zambia, Zambia endorsed the Declarations of the Summit for Democracy with reservations and disassociation from the eighth operative declaration of the Summit. which relates to the “respect for sexual orientation”. Similar reservations and disassociation from the eighth operative declaration of the Summit for Democracy were made by Bulgaria, the Dominican Republic, Iraq, Mauritania, Paraguay, and Poland. Therefore, the claim by The Candidates Facebook page that Zambia had agreed to promote respect for sexual orientation in accordance with the Declaration of the Summit for Democracy, is misleading.
