Claim

An alleged call to members of the public to apply for cash grants, purportedly under the Hakainde Hichilema 2,000 ZMW Cash Grants, is making rounds on social media. The call which is asking members of the public to apply to the scheme and benefit from the 2,000 ZMW empowerment fund has received mixed reactions from online users, with some of them asking authorities to confirm the authenticity of the call and existence of this grant scheme.

iVerify Zambia has determined as false, the purported Hakainde Hichilema 2,000 ZMW cash grant scheme requesting the public to apply for cash grants from the scheme. According to a statement issued by the Minister of Information and Media, Hon. Chushi Kasanda and accessed by iVerify Zambia, the cash grants scheme being circulated on various social media platforms by unknown people using the name of President Hakainde Hichilema is fake. Hon. Kasanda stated that the President was not administering any such public fund and urged the public to ignore the call for applications for cash grants circulating on social media as it is work of fraudsters that want to swindle unsuspecting members of the public.
