On Friday, March 10, 2023, Mr. Chibamba Kanyama posted on his Facebook page thanking his facebook followers on many congralutory messages that were shared in the past few weeks on his appointement as Ambassador to the United States of America. This follows social media reports in January 2023 on Mr Kanyama’s appointment as an Ambassador.

iVerify Zambia has determined as true that Mr. Chibamba Kanyama has been appointed Zambia’s Ambassador to the United States of America. Mr Kanyama was among the appointees who were sworn in on Friday, March 10, 2023, during a swearing in ceremony for Permanent Secretaries, Ambassadors and High Commissioners. President Hakainde Hichilema posted a video of the swearing in ceremony on his official Facebook page.

Earlier, on 20th January 2023, iVerify Zambia contacted Mr. Kanyama to verify social media reports that he had been appointed Zambia’s Ambassador to the USA. Mr Kanyama indicated that he had at the time not received an appointment letter. In the absense of an official confirmation or swearing in ceremony at the time, iVerify classified the January reports as uproven.
